Tuition Advancement
Tuition advancement provides UPMC staff members with the ability to have the eligible tuition assistance benefit paid directly to the schools listed below at the beginning of the term. Click on your school for step-by-step instructions on how to obtain supporting documentation for tuition advancement.

Tuition advancement is available for credit courses only and is only available for staff members. To receive tuition advancement you must submit to the Employee Service Center a completed Staff Member Tuition Assistance Request Form (PDF), a class schedule, and an itemized invoice within 30 days of the class start date. Click here for additional detailed information about acceptable submission documentation (PDF). Once approved, an Advancement Letter will be issued and mailed to your home. Forward the letter to the student accounts office at your school to inform them of your eligibility. Following the conclusion of the term, your school will provide your grade to UPMC and the appropriate taxes will be deducted from your pay. Use this link to view the complete tuition advancement process for staff (PDF).

Tuition Reimbursement
With tuition reimbursement, staff members pay for classes directly to their school at the beginning of the semester and then request reimbursement of eligible out-of-pocket tuition expenses from UPMC after the completion of the term. To receive tuition reimbursement you must submit a completed Staff Member Tuition Assistance Request Form (PDF) with an itemized bill, proof of payment (including method of payment), and proof of successful completion within six months after the course completion/exam date. Click here for additional detailed information about acceptable submission documentation (PDF).
