Reporting Status Changes and Updating Your Coverage

Qualified changes to your or your dependent's benefit status should be reported as soon as possible but no later than within 60 days after the event. This will ensure coverages become effective on the first day of the month following the qualified event. If notifications are received after 60 days, you must wait until the next annual open enrollment to make coverage changes.

Status changes that can be processed through My HUB:

  • marriage
  • divorce or annulment
  • birth or adoption of child
  • domestic partnership change

Status changes that must be reported to the Employee Service Center by calling 1-800-994-2752, option 3:

  • Death of spouse, domestic partner, or dependent
  • Child placed with you for legal guardianship
  • An unmarried dependent becomes ineligible or eligible for coverage. (For example, a son or daughter reaches the plan’s eligibility age limit, becomes or ceases to be a full-time student, or gets married.)
  • Spouse, domestic partner, or dependent gains or loses coverage under another employer’s plan.
  • You, your spouse, domestic partner, or your dependent(s) experience a change in employment status.
  • You, your spouse, domestic partner, or your dependent(s) change home addresses, and the change affects the medical plan network service area.
  • You, your spouse, domestic partner, or your dependent(s) experience a significant change in cost or coverage. (This provision does not apply to your health care flexible spending account.)
  • New 4/1/09 – Special Enrollment Rights under the Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act allow you and your dependents to enroll when gaining or losing eligibility for coverage or premium assistance under a Medicaid or a State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).
